The "Fall Back" Sleep-Saving Tricks Parents Need

October 29, 2020

As we turn the clocks back an hour on November 1st, Hatch is here to help make sure that Halloween is the only scary part of next weekend. We’ve whipped up a magical little sleep schedule to keep you and your little ones’ sleep right on track — so this special weekend is filled with treats (and no tricks!).

A wise sleep expert once said, “sleep begets sleep,” and any sort of sleep transition works best with a well-rested little human. The more well-rested a child, the easier it will be to have that child fall asleep and then stay asleep. So, rather than tackle the time change in one night, take it slow!

Plan to push your kiddo’s schedule later in 15 minute increments over the course of 4 days. So, for your child’s first nap, put them down 15 minutes later than usual. The rest of your little one’s sleep schedule (naps and bedtime) will now be 15 minutes later for the first day. With each subsequent day, push an additional 15 minutes later for all naps and bedtimes. These gradual adjustments should move your child’s wake time later (in the hopes that the dreaded morning isn’t so painful).

You can easily make this adjustment over the course of more days. And you know best — take it as slowly as you feel your child needs! One final note while adjusting sleep schedules:  Sneaking leftover Halloween candy makes almost everything better.

And fear not: Your Hatch Rest, Rest+ and Restore will automatically adjust to the new time — it's one less thing to worry about!
